At the beginning of May, about 64% of Czechs wanted to get the Covid-19 vaccine, survey shows. In April, it was 63%.
According to the Life During the Pandemic survey by PAQ Research, different groups of the population have significant differences in their approach to vaccination. Younger people with lower education levels, from smaller and poorer communities are less willing to get the jab. Only 40 to 50% of them are interested.
The more educated people are also more often already vaccinated. As of May 4, almost two-thirds of respondents with a high school diploma or university degree had at least one dose of the vaccine. Among those without a high school diploma, the share was 44%.
According to health professionals, lower awareness and digital literacy required for online registrations plays a role in this - as well as lower trust in experts and institutions among those less educated. It is also possible that vaccination will bring them fewer benefits, for example concerning travel.
Starting today, everyone over the age of 45 is eligible to get the Covid-19 vaccine in the Czech Republic. Next week, the registrations will open from everyone over the age of 40. After that, the government will probably open it for all over the age of 16. PM Andrej Babiš (ANO) previously announced he hoped that everyone would be able to register from June 1.
