COVID-19 update

More than 1,800 people were tested positive on Sunday, October 4th. This has been the biggest number of people tested positive on Sunday so far. The number of people infected on Saturday, October 3rd, was more than 2,500, which is the biggest number counted on weekends. More than 3,700 people were tested positive on Friday, October 2nd.

Around 1,200 people are in hospitals due to COVID-19, and more than 270 is in serious condition according to the data from Saturday. More than 100 people died due to COVID-19 during the last week. A fourth of the beds on the intensive care in the Czech hospitals has not been used yet.

The Emergency State has been set up in Czechia starting from Monday, October 5th. There are new restrictions valid from the same day. The Emergency State is going to last for one month. The restrictions will be valid for two weeks. According to the Minister of Health, the Emergency State should slow down the rising number of infected people, which should prevent overloading the health care system.


On Friday and Saturday, October 2nd and 3rd, Regional and Senate Elections took place in the Czech Republic. In the Regional Elections, around 40% of people voted, while only 35% people went to vote in the last Regional Elections four years ago. In total, ANO party was the most successful. Pirátská strana (=the Pirate Party) was second and ODS (=the Civil Democratic Party) was third.

In the Senate Elections, ANO was the most successful party too. The second most successful party was STAN (=Mayors and Independent) and the third was ODS. One of the traditionally successful parties, ČSSD was voted by much less people than usually in both Regional and Senate Elections.

New Vice President of European Broadcasting Union

Petr Dvořák, the head of Czech TV, became a Vicepresident of the Europian Broadcasting Union. He is going to replace the current Vicepresident, Delphine Ernotte-Cunci from France. Dvořák has been involved in the Union since 2014.
